There's an article on the web aboout WBC can't be like World cup football. One of the reasons is that "named" players are not participating in the game. As we know most MLB players are not going to be seen in the WBC. Then how about why? one of the main reason that I think is that MLB does not have a competable league. But in football (Soccor) has leagues such as Seria A, EPL, La Liga. Most players would want to go to Spain or Italy to play and earn more money and reputations. World cup is one of the best places to show how valuable the players are.
However, in baseball, most players dream is to play in MLB. No other place has this kind of league reputation.

Other reason we can argue is WBC does not have the "history" of classic games. It's only the second game which just started. The WBC needs to take decades to develop their importance and reputation among players to keep up with the cup.

With out any of this, WBC could just turn into a cup for non-MLB players who wants to play for MLB. A "Scouting field."



 

우연찮게 사이트를 돌아 댕기다가 WBC가 왜 월드컵처럼 될수없을까 라는 글을 봤다. 왜 그럴수가 없을까? 돈이 많은 미국이 개최하고 그러는데? 애매모호한 규정 그리고 부상에 대한 우려들이다. 하지만 월드컵에서도 부상에 대한 우려도 있으니 꼭 그렇지만은 아닐꺼라고 생각도 든다.

여러가지를 생각해볼수도있겟지만, 일단 메이져리그가 상대할마한 리그가 없는것도 하나의 요인이 아닐까?
축구만해도 세리에이 라리가 이피엘 분데스리가 등 유명리그들이 있다. 어느 한리그가 더 유명하고 좋은 리그라고 할수없을만큼 전통적이고 명문리그로 자리를 잡고 있다.
하지만, 야구의 경우에는 메이져리그 외에는 그닥 유명한 리그는 없다. 우리나라 미국 멕시코 기타 유럽쪽에도 리그들이 있지만, 여전히 메이져리그에 비하면 여전히 수준이 낮은 리그로 치부받을뿐이다.
사람은 목적에 의해서 움직이는 동물이라는 애기가 있다.
그렇다면 선수들은 굳이 부상위험이나 명성도 낮은 컵대회를 위해서 열심히 뛰어야 할까?
우리나라선수들이나 메이져리그에 뛰지 않는 국가들은 약간의 예외로 받아들여질수도있다.
꼭 메이저에게 스카웃트가 되기위해서만은 아니지만, 강대국 미국을 쓰러뜨리는 경쟁심이나 일본과의 라이벌구도 등에서 우리나라는 출전할 이유가 많다.

한가지 더 지적하고 싶다. 그것은 WBC의 역사다. 월드컵은 오래된 역사로 인해 컵자체가 명성도도 높고 존중의 되어온 대회인데 아직 WBC는 이제 2회 대회인만큼 처녀작에 불과하다는 것이다.
명성도 쌓고 오랫동안 대회를 꾸준히 열어야 선수들이 나와서 1등하는것에 대한 포부와 긍지를 얻을수있지않을까란 생각을 해본다....
